Abstract

Against the rapid disciplinary advancement of area‑studies, talent cultivation faces practical dilemmas such as homogenization and insufficient integration with industry needs, making it urgent to seek breakthroughs in talent‑cultivation philosophy, logic, and pathways. Philosophically, global competence and area‑studies share three‑fold alignment: training objectives for national‑strategy services, core competencies of cross‑cultural understanding, and the practice‑oriented pursuit of integrating knowledge with action. This provides value guidance for resolving the challenges in talent cultivation. Logically, industry-related features serve as a natural bond for universities to carry out area‑studies talent cultivation, closely aligning with the national strategy of “industries going global”, promoting multidisciplinary integration driven by industrial needs, and cultivating well‑rounded, application‑oriented talents who integrate knowledge with action — thus offering a practical vehicle for realizing the value of global competence. In terms of pathways, industry-featured universities should focus on cultivating “domain‑proficient” talents. They should leverage industrial endowments to define training orientations and draw on real‑world issues from overseas practice to build an interdisciplinary training system that deeply integrates language proficiency, regional expertise and industry-related competence.
