Abstract

As a driving force for high-quality development， ESG has become a hot topic in corporate management and academic research in recent years. Based on panel data of Shanghai and Shenzhen A-share listed logistics companies from 2019 to 2023， this study constructs a two-way fixed effects model and a mediation effects model to empirically examine the impact of ESG performance on high-quality development in the logistics industry and its underlying mechanisms. The findings indicate that sound ESG performance significantly promotes high-quality development in the logistics industry， and this conclusion remains valid after endogeneity and robustness tests. Green innovation capability acts as a mediating factor： superior ESG performance boosts corporate green innovation capacity and thereby facilitates the industry’s high-quality development. Heterogeneity tests reveal that ESG performance exerts a significant positive effect on the high-quality development of transportation service logistics enterprises， while such effect is insignificant for warehousing logistics enterprises. Based on these findings， logistics enterprises should actively embrace ESG development principles and achieve sustainable， high-quality development through three strategic pathways： strengthening strategic leadership effectiveness， building collaborative innovation systems， and refining differentiated governance mechanisms tailored to enterprise categories.
