The Mechanisms of Self-driven Management Empowering Organizational Digital Adaptability Transformation:A Case Study of ByteDance

Abstract

Self-driven management is a novel management model centered around self-motivation, serving as the source and internal driving force for an organization’s digital adaptive transformation. This paper conducts a single case study on ByteDance company to explore the empowerment mechanism of self-driven management for an organization’s digital adaptive transformation. The research findings indicate that the empowering effect of self-driven management on organizational digital adaptive transformation is achieved through intermediate pathways of organizational adaptive transformation. It enhances three key capabilities of an organization’s digital adaptive transformation, including the capability of organizational management reform, the capability of digital technology application, and the capability of matching organizational management with digital technology. The construction paths of self-driven management include setting individual self-driven goals, maintaining a self-driven learning mindset, and implementing self-driven adaptive actions. Therefore, enterprises can conduct self-driven management through self-driven goals, self-driven learning, and self-driven adaptation, thereby fostering self-driven goal management,building self-driven organizations, and cultivating a self-driven culture to achieve organizational adaptive transformation. Subsequently, by leveraging digital technologies, enterprises can drive organizational digital adaptive transformation through the collaborative coupling process from embedding to matching.
