“The ideological and political leadership” is an iconic and original concept put forward by Xi Jinping for the construction of a leading country in education， highlighting the Chinese characteristics and significant advantages of building China into a leading country in education. Colleges and universities shoulder a special mission in this process. Enhancing the attraction of ideological and political education is an urgent requirement for leveraging the unique advantages of universities to promote the construction of a leading country in education. It is the fundamental guarantee for adhering to the Party’s leadership over universities and ensuring the direction of socialist education. It is an effective way to uphold moral education and cultivate new talents who can shoulder the great responsibility of national rejuvenation in the era. To enhance the leadership of ideological and political education in universities， it is necessary to （a）strengthen Marxist theory education and discipline construction， and ensure the correct direction of building a strong country in education， （b）give full play to the key role of key courses and build a “great ideological and political” education pattern， （c）empower with information technology to enhance the digital and intelligent level of ideological and political work in universities，and （d）establish a sound mechanism for cultivating morality and talents and achieve the “three in one” education.
