Abstract：The construction of a beautiful and harmonious countryside that is desirable to live and work in is a major policy innovation of the CPC Central Committee in the field of agriculture， rural areas and farmers. It is a significant measure for the comprehensive implementation of the rural revitalization strategy， as well as a manifestation of the development process of agricultural and rural modernization， aiming to achieve a coordinated development of material civilization and spiritual civilization in rural society. Viewing from the perspective of historical materialism， the construction of a beautiful and harmonious countryside that is desirable to live and work in primarily encompasses three levels of meaning： its value orientation is to satisfy the human needs for survival， enjoyment and development； the shared vision is to construct interdependent social relations from the dimensions of subjectivity， sociality and development of human life； and the practical orientation is to create a rural governance community in the process of unifying personal principles with social principles and personal values with social values， thereby achieving shared development.
